Internet, le 27 juillet 2021 - L'Alliance OSPO (Open Source Program Offices), créée par OW2, Eclipse Foundation, Foundation for Public Code et OpenForum Europe, annonce aujourd’hui le ralliement de nouveaux grands contributeurs internationaux de logiciels libres, dont Red Hat, Microsoft, Orange et Engineering, engagés à participer aux activités de l'Alliance et à OSPO.Zone, le site web accueillant ses espaces de collaboration et leurs ressources. Depuis son lancement en juin 2021, douze organisations ont confirmé leur soutien à l'Alliance OSPO. Ce soutien renforcé confirme l'importance des logiciels libres pour l'économie européenne et l'intérêt d'établir un centre d'excellence afin de promouvoir la bonne gouvernance des logiciels open source dans chaque organisation.

L'Alliance OSPO a pour objectif d'aider les entreprises et les institutions publiques à découvrir et à comprendre l'open source, puis à en tirer profit dans l'ensemble de leurs activités jusqu’à créer un centre de compétences internes, aussi appelé OSPO (pour Open Source Programme Office ou bureau du programme open source). L'Alliance OSPO offre aux contributeurs un lieu neutre où ils peuvent partager leurs ressources, leur expérience et leurs compétences. Les supporters peuvent choisir de contribuer au nouveau site OSPO.Zone et/ou à formaliser la méthodologie de l'initiative de bonne gouvernance open source (https://www.ow2.org/view/OSS_Governance/).

During the OW2 annual conference, June 23-24, 2021, online, three projects are rewarded for their contributions to the OW2 code base and to the open source community ecosystem.

Paris, France, June 24, 2021 – OW2, the international community for open source infrastructure software, announces the winners of OW2con'21 Best Project Awards. The OW2con Best Project Awards recognize OW2 projects for their outstanding contribution to several categories including community, technology, and market performance. 

The winners of the OW2con'21 Best Project Awards are:

Technology: The 2021 OW2 Best Project Technology Award goes to Zenroom, a high tech product, developed by a global community, using widely accepted industrial and governmental quality standards. It's written in C and Lua with long-term maintainability in mind, and the developers can guarantee it will compile and work in 20 years time from now!

Community: The 2021 OW2 Best Project Community Award goes to the LDAP Tool Box project. It started as an effort from Clément Oudot to share knowledge and tools around LDAP directories. It has progressively helped more and more users and became quite popular. The best example is the Self-Service Password application, started in 2009 and now translated in 27 languages, and having more than 700 stars on github.

Market: The 2021 OW2 Best Project Market Award goes to XWiki, an open source platform distributed internationally that goes head to head with solutions proposed by large financially backed contenders. The software team has achieved this thanks to many satisfied clients and strong word-of-mouth for the product and services. This led to XWiki having an important adoption all around the world with more than 150 custom projects being used on all the continents. 
All winners will receive their awards in their office. For the second consecutive year, the pandemic situation did not allow us to organize a physical ceremony.

Les principales organisations européennes à but non lucratif de logiciels open source annoncent la création de l'alliance OSPO afin de promouvoir les meilleures pratiques en matière de gouvernance des logiciels libres.

PARIS, le 23 juin 2021 – Aujourd’hui, à l’occasion de la conférence OW2con’21, une coalition d’organisations européennes de premier plan dans l'open source dont OW2, Eclipse Foundation, OpenForum Europe et Foundation for Public Code, annonce la création de l'alliance OSPO. Les missions de cette alliance consistent à faire connaître l'open source en Europe et dans le monde et à promouvoir une gestion structurée et professionnelle des logiciels libres par les entreprises et les administrations.

L'Alliance OSPO a pour objectif d'aider les entreprises et les institutions publiques à découvrir et à comprendre l'open source, à commencer à en tirer profit dans le cadre de leurs activités et à se développer pour accueillir un bureau de programme open source (OSPO). Elle sera axée sur le rôle des OSPO en tant qu'aspect de la gouvernance organisationnelle essentiel dans les secteurs non technologiques, notamment l'éducation et l'administration publique.

L’Alliance OSPO annonce aussi la création du site OSPO.Zone hébergé à l’adresse https://ospo.zone. Fondé sur l'initiative OW2 de bonne gouvernance, le référentiel OSPO.Zone fournit un ensemble de ressources pour les entreprises, les institutions publiques et les organisations de recherche et universitaires. OSPO.Zone permettra à l'Alliance de se connecter avec d’autres OSPO à travers l'Europe et le monde ainsi qu'avec des organisations communautaires de soutien. Cela encouragera les meilleures pratiques et favorisera la contribution à un écosystème durable de logiciels libres.

The OW2 Quick App initiative, promoting technologies that enables the rapid creation of lightweight applications
that are easy to use, reliable and efficient without installation, is launched today at OW2con’21.  

Paris, 23 June 2021 - Today OW2, the international community for open source infrastructure software, launched the OW2 Quick App initiative at its annual OW2con'21 conference. This initiative, open to all OW2 members and non-members alike, is a collective effort to promote, in an open source mode, the Quick App technology, a concrete implementation of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) MiniApp standard. This standard allows advanced services to be made available on mobiles without the need to install an application first.

The OW2 Quick App initiative will be announced online on Wednesday 23 June at 9.45am as part of the annual OW2con’21 conference by Xuemin Wang, Vice-President at Huawei European Research Institute, Christian Paterson, Senior Open Source Strategy Expert at Huawei and Martin Alvarez, Web Standards Manager at Huawei Technologies.

The OW2 Quick App initiative aims to develop dedicated tools and runtime software engines for MiniApp-compliant applications on all platforms, based on advanced UI components and predefined native APIs, e.g. push notifications, Bluetooth, or on-board camera activations.

This new OW2 initiative is led by Huawei, an active proponent of Quick Apps, a member of OW2 and the W3C MiniApp standard working group. Among the first participants in the OW2 Quick App initiative are:

• FRVR, a game development company that actively uses Quick Apps as a means of application distribution.
• Alliance Tech, an association that provides a co-creation framework for investors, entrepreneurs, private and public sector leaders, universities and R&D centres, developing use cases.
• RSI, a new foundation being launched in Switzerland to promote sustainability. RSI focuses on the use of Quick Apps to promote sustainability in areas such as fashion.
• Famobi, a pioneer in the HTML5 games industry using the latest cross-platform technologies to bring native application quality to the web. The company has been working with Quick Apps since 2019.
• Santillana,  an education expert in Latin America and Spain creating innovative platforms and digital content.
• CTIC, the research and innovation centre for smart territories, active ageing and well-being, and industrial digital transformation, is exploring new uses for Quick Apps.

A l’occasion d’OW2con’21, lancement de l’initiative Quick App de promotion d’une technologie permettant de créer
rapidement des applications légères, sans installation, simples à utiliser, fiables et efficaces.  

Paris, le 23 juin 2021 - OW2, la communauté internationale des logiciels d'infrastructure open source lance aujourd’hui, lors de sa conférence annuelle OW2con’21, l’initiative OW2 Quick App. Cette initiative ouverte à tous, aux membres d’OW2 comme aux non-membres, est un effort collectif pour promouvoir, sur un mode open source, la technologie des Quick App, une mise en œuvre concrète de la norme  MiniApp du W3C (World Wide Web Consortium). Cette norme permet de mettre à disposition des services avancés sur des mobiles sans avoir à installer d’application au préalable.

L’annonce de l’initiative OW2 Quick App aura lieu en ligne le Mercredi 23 juin à 9h45 dans le cadre de la conférence annuelle OW2con’21, par Xuemin Wang, Vice-President Huawei European Research Institute, Christian Paterson, Senior Open Source Strategy Expert de Huawei et Martin Alvarez, Web Standards Manager de Huawei Technologies.

L’initiative OW2 Quick App a pour objectif le développement d'outils dédiés et de moteurs logiciels d'exécution pour des applications conformes à la norme MiniApp sur toutes les plateformes, à partir de composants d'interface utilisateur avancés et d’API natives prédéfinies, par exemple pour pousser et afficher une notification vers l’utilisateur, établir une connexion Bluetooth ou prendre une photo à l’aide de l’appareil embarqué.

Cette nouvelle initiative OW2 est animée par Huawei, promoteur actif des Quick Apps, membre d’OW2 et du groupe de travail sur la norme MiniApp du W3C. Parmi les premiers participants de l’initiative OW2 Quick App, on trouve :

Today at OW2con, a coalition of leading European open source non-profit organizations, including OW2, Eclipse Foundation, OpenForum Europe, and Foundation for Public Code, announced the OSPO Alliance with a mission to grow awareness for open source in Europe and globally and to promote the structured and professional management of open source by companies and administrations.

The OSPO Alliance aims to help companies and public institutions discover and understand open source, start benefiting from it across their activities and grow to host an Open Source Program Office (OSPO). It will be focused on the role of OSPOs as an aspect of organizational governance essential in non-technology sectors including education and public administration.

The OSPO Alliance is also announcing the establishment of the OSPO.Zone website hosted at https://ospo.zone. Based on the OW2 Good Governance Initiative, OSPO.Zone is a repository for a comprehensive set of resources for corporations, public institutions, and research and academic organizations. OSPO.Zone will enable the Alliance to connect with OSPOs across Europe and the world as well as with supportive community organizations. It will encourage best practices and foster contribution to the sustainability of the open source ecosystem.

To support its mission, OSPO Alliance is teaming up with a variety of strong partners:

On 23 and 24 June 2021, the OW2 annual conference will celebrate the European open source ecosystem.
A broad programme with international presentations and high-level speakers.
Paris, June 2nd, 2021 - OW2, the global community promoting open source software for information systems, announces the program of its 2021 annual conference that will take place on 23-24 June. For the second year in a row, OW2con will be a 100% virtual event with 36 international speakers thriving to address the general theme of the year: ‘Leveraging the European Open Source Ecosystem’

During the day on 23 June and the morning of 24 June, the online conference will enable interactions with top notch speakers on the following topics

Keynote speeches will be given by strategists from the European Commission, Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, the Open Source Initiative and RIOS (Rete Italiana Open Source). 

The conference will see the launch of OW2 Quick Apps, a new application packaging that could democratise mobile apps, as well as the latest enhancements to the OW2 code base projects.  

Other highlights of the conference include open source governance, public policy, digital sovereignty, identity management, collaborative suites and Big Data. Finally, and not to be missed, the announcement of the OW2con'21 Best Project Awards. 

The conference is free of charge and all presentations will be held in English. OW2online’21 will run on a platform enabling participants to ask questions in real time and to carry on conversations with speakers after their presentations.

OW2 and the European project ReachOut invite developers to evaluate as many innovative software as they wish
and share their impressions, with more incentives until June 13, 2021.

Paris, April 12th, 2021 – OW2, the international community dedicated to developing and promoting a code base of open source software for corporate information systems, invites beta testers to explore new and innovative software in the  ReachOut test{fest} .

In return for their efforts, they will be able to interact with designers and receive monetary rewards of up to  €30, €60 or €90  per evaluation, a Software Ranger certificate, a nomination to the ReachOut Hall of Fame  and, for one of them, a ReachOut Special Award presented at OW2con'21, the next annual OW2 conference to be held, online, on 23 and 24 June 2021.

To participate remotely in the ReachOut test{fest} , which runs from 13 April to 13 June 2021, testers must follow the instructions provided on the contest webpage: https://l.ow2.org/testfest  

The profile of participants and their system requirements vary according to the test campaigns offered, from a simple smartphone business user to a beginner or advanced developer, to the professional tester. Anyone with a keen interest in digital innovation can take part, simply by following the steps offered online and then completing a full evaluation form about the user experience, features in place, or encountered difficulties.

After June 13th 2021, the ReachOut test{fest}  will be over, but testers will still be able to participate in active campaigns, interact with designers, receive rewards for their efforts and enter a prize draw for a special ReachOut prize awarded at the end of 2021.
