September 2022 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - September 2022 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

After a well deserved summer holiday, the OW2 team is eager to face new challenges. And there are many ahead of us!

As an open source advocate, signatory of Berlin and Budapest declarations on open access, we get more and more involved in French and European public efforts toward open science and free software: in France, we contribute to Committee for Open Science (COSO) OSS working group, trying to leverage successes like Sat4J or Spoon, and take part in government OSS initiatives, by participating in "Free software pole" of digital agency DINUM. We will also be present at "Euclidia Now" event in Bruxelles (Sep. 29), to share thoughts about European cloud sovereignty.

I also take occasion of this newsletter to remind our academic members and friends that OW2 is a seasoned dissemination, communication, code hosting and exploitation partner in EU-funded projects: involving OW2 in your Horizon call is a way for you to have Europe finance a non-profit association, advocate for open science, and make your project a success far beyond the grant ending, as full-fledged open source OW2 project.

Also, last but not least, our joint efforts with Eclipse and others at OSPO Alliance are more promising than ever: a German version of the "Open Source Good Governance Handbook" is now available, after the English version, and we are almost done translating it to French: this makes OW2 an official book editor! We will be at Open Source Experience in Paris, in November, to promote the methodology and answer any question about how we foresee open source governance.

So... Let's just pave the way that will bring open source to mainstream!

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Pierre-Yves Gibello
