[OW2 Newsletter - November 2022 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

November is key for OW2's European and French community: "Open Source Experience" (OSXP) Paris, the most important open source event in France and one of Europe's biggest, takes place on November 8 and 9. Of course we are there, with a booth (C16) hosting us, two member SMEs (FusionDirectory and XWiki), and the Morphemic cloud project.
Many OW2 members are present as well:  BlueMind, Centreon, FactorFX, Huawei, Inria, Microsoft, PrestaShop, Smile and Worteks on their booths, Orange in the talks.

OW2 also takes the occasion to promote the NGI-Search European initiative: a cascade funding providing grants up to 150.000 EUR to innovative open source Internet search projects (secure and private search, NLP and vocal assistants, data visualization, social computing...). The 1st "open call" starts in December: a lightweight process suitable for SMEs, small research teams and even individuals!

And the OW2 Quick App Initiative is back on the Huawei booth (E32), showcasing open source + open data demos focused on cultural heritage: the team will also be on hand to explain technology and answer any question. You can also catch Martin Alvarez-Espinar speaking on the OSXP round-table "Open source for open data and citizen participation" (13.30, Nov. 9) and Christian Paterson in the SIDO panel talk "Civic-Techs & IoT" (15.30, Nov. 8).

Of course, OSXP is a unique place to put the focus on OSPOs and governance: OW2 participates in a round table about the OSPO Alliance (11.10, Nov. 8) with Eclipse, IEEE, City of Paris and OpenUp, and another one at OpenCIO Summit about OSS governance use-cases (17.45, Nov. 8) with MAIF, City of Paris and Microsoft. Among other talks: we'll be on stage beside APELL, Orange, Worteks and Makina Korpus to defend Cloud sovereignty and European software vendors independence under the banner of Euclidia alliance, and evangelize with other European communities about the role of foundations and associations in the OSS panorama (15.30, Nov. 9).

November is important as well for the Italian OSS community, with SFScon in Bolzano, November 11 and 12. OW2 is represented there by our Italian associate organization RIOS (Rete Italiana Open Source) and our Italian member company Engineering: RIOS, involved in our work on governance at OSPO Alliance, will present the latest developments of our OSS Good Governance methodology.

So: come and meet us on our booth at OSXP, and if you can't make it to Paris (or Bolzano?)... Stay tuned!

  • Rocket.Chat: released version 5.2.0 with a long list of new features and improvements including: an improved support of Matrix, improved administration UI, several VoIP evolutions and a lot of more! More.
  • GLPI shared important information regarding recent CVEs, but also published a new success story. More.
  • BlueMind shared in a very detailed blog post all important announcements made during BlueMind summit, a very interesting reading. More.
  • LDAP Tool Box published version 1.5.2 of Self Service Password with bug fixes and improved documentation! More.
  • Spoon 10.2.0 was released and brings support for sealed classes, use inferred generic type in invocations and several bug fixes. More.
  • FusionDirectory shared their latest news and a list of events they will attends including OpenSource Experience where you can meet also OW2 team. More.
  • PrestaShop version 8.0.0 brings a significant cleanup in the codebase and is also the project’s first company-neutral release, meaning that it no longer includes commercial products and services built-in. Of course it also fix several issues. More.
  • XWiki: released version 14.9. This version improves the new client-side PDF Export feature by offering the ability to configure it in the Admin UI and by enhancing the default template. It also fixes bugs and especially several security bugs, making it a recommended upgrade. More.
  • OCS Inventory version 2.11.0 is out with a new SNMP details page that allow XML and CSV export of all SNMP types, add SNMP stats in dashboard, update translations and much more. More.
  • AuthzForce version 20.1.1 has been published and upgrade several dependencies to benefit from various CVEs fix. More.

Project of the month

GLPI is a free IT Asset Management, issue tracking system and service desk solution. GLPI won the 2017 OW2 Best Project Special Prize Award. More.
