[OW2 Newsletter - August 2020 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

As to be expected, OW2’s information system is built on open source software. Not mere consumers, we use open source responsibly, buy support subscriptions when necessary, and contribute back to the efforts of developers with bug reports and code whenever we can.

Our technical choices reflect the organisation we want to be, and, for a non-profit such as ours, the economic advantage is crucial. But it is so much more than that. I already commented on how in six weeks we developed the platform for our virtual conference thanks to open source software. The benefits of engaging with the open source ecosystem are quantitative and qualitative, and tangible and intangible. Here is the question users should be asking themselves: “Do we understand and manage open source correctly, and are we getting the most value out of it?”

It’s a hot summer here, and the OW2 Management Office is taking turns to go on well-deserved vacations. Please note OW2 will not operate at full speed during the month of August.

  • Knowage: The new release Knowage 7.2 brings many general improvements, including AWS RED/RedShift certification, a custom chart, a Python/R Widget and many more. More.
  • ASM: ASM 9.0 beta released with JDK 16 support (sealed classes), new ASM9 api version and bug fixes. More.
  • Authzforce: Version 16.0.0 is now available for download on Maven Central Repository. More.
  • Fusion Directory: FusionDirectory made it to the French administration list of recommended open source software. More.
  • GPLI: Version 9.5 is now available on GLPI Cloud. More.
  • Rocket.Chat: Version 3.4.2 with bug fixes and the 3.5.0 release bringing new features and improvements to the Enterprise edition and dozens of bug fixes. More.
  • Sympa: Beta version Sympa 6.2.57b.1 is the pre-release version of the next stable release Sympa 6.2. More.
  • Waarp: Releases version 3.4.0 of Waarp R66 includes support for the ICAP protocol and 3.4.0 of Waarp Gateway FTP with several corrections and optimisations. More.
  • XWiki: XWiki 11.10.7  is a bugfix release that covers important issues discovered since 11.10.6. More.
     

Project of the month

Lutece is a portal engine which allows you to easily create your websites or intranets based on HTML or XML content. More.

Project services

OW2 is now member of Apple Developer Program. Projects can now benefit from this membership to publish their applications on the App Store. If you are interested, open an issue on Service Desk.

OW2 project FusionDirectory is now listed in the french administration list of recommended software (SILL "Socle Interministériel de Logiciels Libres"). Congratulations for this great achievement! More.

 

Given the uncertainly of the months ahead, Eclipse has decided to bring EclipseCon 2020 to a virtual event. The CFP is closed now and the program has been published. More.

ICT 2020, December 1-3, Cologne (cancelled)

The ICT event organized by The European Commission is finally cancelled due to the current health situation in the world and options are explored to re-schedule it in 2021.

European Big Data Value Forum, November 3-5, Berlin and virtual

The EBDVF is co-organized by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) and the European Commission (DG CNECT). The 2020 theme is “Building a strong European Data and AI Ecosystem”.
