[OW2 Newsletter - October 2021 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

In a world of free and open source software where developers publish code for developers, communities blossom thanks to symmetries in culture and practices that facilitate their conversations. As open source becomes more mature it expands toward more commercial and more business-like segments. By moving up the layers of corporate information systems -- from the operating system up to the business applications -- open source software is increasingly used by non-IT specialists. Open source becomes mainstream.

This creates a new situation for open source developers. The chances of an accountant or a marketing executive reporting a bug or sending a feature request via an issue tracker is virtually non-existant, as is the prospect of a growing community of users turned contributors. In this context, commercial open source software vendors play an irreplaceable mediation role; they are the key to a growing open source software market. Primarily SMEs, these vendors also deserve the support of dedicated public policies.

On another note, the ReachOut Testfest organized by OW2 and the ReachOut project is in full swing until 31 October 2021: 10 on-going beta-testing campaigns and your chance to win a prize!

  • FusionDirectory: will participate in a bunch of events and if you can't travel has also a series of webinars coming up. More.
  • XWiki: version 13.8 brings performance improvement for the new LiveData feature and also several improvement for developers. More.
  • Jeka: Scaffold API has been modified, template has been added for creation of Jeka plugins and several improvements related to Windows are included. More.
  • Lutece: a new release candidate for version 7.0.0 has been published. More.
  • BlueMind: shared in a blog post the ultimate meeting organization guidelines using BlueMind agenda. More.
  • Sympa: version 6.2.66 is out with data source synchronization performance improvements and conformance to RFC 5322. More.
  • Rocket.Chat: released several 4.0.0 release candidate versions and the final 4.0.0 version has been published recently. More.
