November 2018 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - November 2018 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

I would like to start this newsletter by congratulating Daniel Le Berre who has just been awarded the CNRS Innovation Medal for OW2 project Sat4j! Daniel started developing Sat4j in 2004 and it has been downloaded more than 200,000 times from the OW2 forge since January 2006. Moreover, as it is integrated in the Eclipse IDE, Sat4j is used by millions of people across the globe. Congratulations Daniel and the team, OW2 is proud of you!

Once again, this year sees OW2 contributing to the Paris Open Source Summit, the flagship event of the European open source community. OW2 organizes the Community Summit and the OSS in Big Cities session and will showcase members and projects including 7bulls.comSTAMP and Melodic on the exhibition floor. The theme of this year's Community Summit is “Creating Market Values with OSS Ethical Values.”  There are many ways to look at it. What makes a business model respectful of FLOSS values? Do users care about FLOSS values?  Does software create more value when it is shared than when it is owned? And how about fake FLOSS and open washing? Eleven experienced community speakers will share their perspectives.

Position opening: OW2 is conducting interviews to recruit its next Chief Technology Officer. Check out the job description. This is a high-visibility position for an experienced community-oriented developer. We'd like to hear from you if you think you fit the bill. Otherwise, we would be grateful if you could pass the word around or retweet it.

On another note, we are happy to confirm OW2con'19 will take place June 12-13 at Orange Gardens. Save the date!

Thanking you for your on-going support!

Cedric Thomas
