[OW2 Newsletter - May 2025 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear all,

OW2 just starts a busy, but fruitful month: with both a new project (Linphone) and a new member (Murena) joining, we clearly reinforce our presence in privacy-focused phoning and communication. Linphone is developed by our member Belledonne Communications, already very active in our community as co-organizer of AlpOSS event; and Murena is the company who backs /e/OS and the e.Foundation, a vibrant ecosystem providing a degooglized smartphone OS, already showcased on OW2 booth last year at OSXP (Open Source Experience) Paris.

So, what? Just privacy and sovereignty, just that: the smartphone (with its underlying technologies) and the apps on it (with many services operated by private actors that can be replaced with open commons - like Open Street Map and the Fediverse) being the main door of our digital life: and as the choice is between freedom and dystopia, we bet on the 1st option.

Do I need to add that my own smartphone is now a Murena with /e/OS - and that it rocks? Just try if you can't believe it - /e/OS can even be installed for free on many used smartphone, so the experience is worth some time and nothing else.

But let's come back to events, because we have some ahead: OW2con'25 registrations are open and attendance free, the program is online, let's meet in Paris - June 17/18.

New sponsors are joining - this includes at least FundingBox and Huawei - so we are confident that the event will be self-sustained, but it is not too late to join in, support us and make your brand shine: have a look at the sponsorship packages and pick the one that fits!

Also, we co-organize with Telecom Valley a local event in Sophia Antipolis (close to Nice, southern France, by the sea - and in French)... right now or almost: "Nuit des Acteurs du Numérique", May 13 evening - register here (cost 20 EUR, free for Telecom Valley members).

So: still many occasions to join us and chat about open source and community, eager to meeting you!

Thanking you for your ongoing support of open source,
The OW2 Management Office

Project News

Project Updates

  • CryptPad recently solved a major access issue after its sandbox domain was incorrectly flagged as malicious by Google Safe Browsing, prompting the team to change domains. The project switched from Fosstodon to its own Mastodon instance (social.xwiki.com), to address moderation concerns. And recent press coverage highlighted its growing adoption and recognition. Find details in the April 2025 status
  • GLPI Agent 1.14 has been released with fixes and enhancements including improved SNMP inventory, antivirus detection updates, and better network device support. Users are encouraged to update to benefit from these improvements and the latest packaging updates for Windows and MacOSX.
  • Imixs-Workflow Tutorial on Service Tasks. Unlike traditional BPMN engines where Service Tasks execute embedded code, Imixs-Workflow uses an event-driven architecture, implementing custom logic through Plugins and Adapters. This approach separates business logic from workflow models, enhancing flexibility, and scalability, offering clear migration guidance for users familiar with engines like Camunda.
  • JeKa release 0.11.28 is out with enhanced plugin ecosystem, and core build logic for better performance and usability. The  updates focused on expanding support for external plugins, streamlining multi-module project handling, and improving documentation to make onboarding and advanced usage easier for developers.
  • Linphone, a Skype open source alternative. With Skype ending, Linphone offers a secure alternative for VoIP and video calls. It supports easy migration and integrates well with existing systems.
  • Lutece revealed its 7.1.3 release that fixes bugs related to HTML unescaping, user exports, and template functionalities, while enhancing user experience with improved validation messages. The update also includes a library-workflow-core upgrade and retracts a previous change to avoid bytecode incompatibility.
  • Rocket.Chat version 7.6.0-rc.7 introduces an enhanced LDAP synchronization for federated users, dynamic configuration options for app settings, an audit page for server settings changes, and improvements to room navigation and UI elements under feature previews. The release also addresses several issues, resulting in a more robust and flexible platform.
