May 2019 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - May 2019 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

I'm pleased to unveil the detailed programme of OW2con'19,  “Open Source Toward Industry Maturity”. The billion dollar open source mergers that took place in 2018 are a clear indication that open source is now reaching maturity. As open source projects become increasingly competitive, all IT developers, vendors and users are obliged to implement open source strategies.

Keynote speakers from Deutsche Telekom, Engineering, Ericsson, IBM, Nokia, Orange, the Free Software Foundation Europe and The Document Foundation will deliver presentations illustrating the theme of this year’s conference.

Register now on the OW2con'19 website. Only a few weeks to the conference, June 12-13. It is free of charge so make sure you register now! OW2con sponsoring opportunities are still available, check out our affordable sponsorship packages! Our appreciation to our first sponsors: Engineering, Inria and Orange.

On another note, the Technology Council has accepted ADR, an application developed by Corporate Member Gendarmerie Nationale to identify hazardous products in transport.

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

Project News

New  project

ADR App has been accepted in the OW2 code base, a solution to provide anyone the capability to identify hazardous transports. It embeds a small database to identify products using symbols and codes displayed on trucks. Not the usual OW2 application, ADR App is developed and maintained by the Gendarmerie Nationale IT service, ST(SI)2, a recent member of OW2.

Project of the month

ASM is an all purpose Java bytecode manipulation and analysis framework. It can be used to modify existing classes or to dynamically generate classes, directly in binary form. ASM provides some common bytecode transformations and analysis algorithms from which custom complex transformations and code analysis tools can be built. ASM offers similar functionality as other Java bytecode frameworks, but is focused on performance. More.
