[OW2 Newsletter - February 2024 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

This month again I will be very pragmatic: OW2 is focused on efficiency, making your FOSS life easier and helping projects be sustainable.

We'll never be an american-style charity business, with 100k+ memberships to pay Brussels lobbyists (so the EU knows the "right" way to manage FOSS? I was there around FOSDEM... it is frightening!) and the wealthiest steering the boat alone: democracy and community rule, we are proud of being a common open to business, associations, open science, public sector, advocating for FOSS and true European sovereignty. With no hidden political or business agenda.

Keep the money for your OSPO and field FOSS: join OW2, the independent and transparent non-profit that paves the road for less - at its real cost, I mean :)

Now some (good) news about FOSS funding: NGI0 Commons Fund is launched, its 1st open call started, and you may apply for a grant. 21.6 MEUR of EC public money to fuel open source and commons, with OW2 steering the community side.
And for you, just a form to fill in: tell us what animates you, how your project will make the world of internet and commons better for citizens, then click submit!

Among other channels for FOSS funding: look at the "BlueHats Prize" from the French administration, still open to small, collaborative projects - not the usual suspects: note you may even nominate a project you like! And don't forget NGI search 4th open call, in progress.

I also have a message for all NGI grantees: advocate, advertise for it, tell the world you are in - and how much it is a success story. We need you all to convince politicians and decision makers that NGI rocks, so they have to keep the effort! Come back to us, we'll publish the news to make NGI shine.

And, would you wish to meet us physically (we'd be delighted), OW2 will run two events in France in the near future: OW2Con'24 in Paris (June 11/12), gathering all our community in EU and worldwide, and the more local AlpOSS on March 21 (hosted at the City Hall of Echirolles, near Grenoble).
Of course, attendance is free! Unless you opt for a sponsor package at OW2Con: a way to both support us and promote your FOSS involvement!

Last but not least, it is election time to renew the OW2 Board of Directors: all our members (corporate and individuals) should have received an email to call for candidates, don't forget to apply by Feb. 13. Then we'll need your vote: the Board is key in OW2's governance, and your voice matters! Do not hesitate to contact us directly for any question (or if you did not receive the email, as a member, of course).

Thanking you so much for supporting open source,

Pierre-Yves Gibello

PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter
