April 2021 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - April 2021 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

In September 2019, the founder of the free software movement Richard Stallman was forced to resign from MIT and the Free Software Foundation (FSF) after making abusive comments relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. His reinstatement last month to the board of the FSF, which to many appeared a fait accompli, has shaken the open source community.

OW2 condemns this turn of events and expects the FSF to get its act together promptly. Not so much because we strongly believe in values of openness and consensus building that seem to have been trampled in this case, but because whatever a person or organisation’s merits are, we reject all behaviours that prejudice our efforts to foster a healthy open source ecosystem. Benevolent dictators yes, autocrats no.

On another note the OW2con’21 call for presentations is closed. We are looking at a great program again this year. And we will publish it shortly. Stay tuned! Save the date, June 23-24, and check out how you can become a Sponsor! Sponsorship helps to make an even better conference.

We are pleased to announce we have begun releasing the Market Readiness Level assessment we have computed for 14 of our projects. Check them out on the project page.

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter.
