April 2020 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - April 2020 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

With the unfolding COVID-19 crisis affecting each and every one of us in one way or another, I sincerely hope you and your loved ones are all keeping safe. Situations like these demonstrate the value of shared resources created by open science, open data and cooperating the open source way. Hopefully, a few weeks down the line, we will be able to reflect on the positive role played by the open source software community in these challenging times. In the meantime, the best we can do is take full advantage of the online nature of our activity and stay home and keep things working.

So, what’s happening with OW2con'20 scheduled for June 17-18 and to be hosted at Orange Labs? While we are looking into organizing some elements of OW2con on-line, an event held entirely virtually cannot be an appropriate alternative for our community. As of today, two and a half months away from the event, we are still maintaining our annual conference. Of course we assess the situation weekly and we will comply with Orange’s recommendations; the final go-no-go decision will be made on May 26th at the latest. Stay tuned!

I'd like to end with a call for sponsors. Please check out our attractive sponsoring packages and don’t miss this opportunity to show your support. The OW2con’20 call for presentation is now closed and we are looking forward to a great programme. And a quick message to Project Leaders: the OW2con'20 Best Project Awards contest is launched; submit your project now!

On another note, I am delighted to announce that the Board of Directors has re-elected Jean Parpaillon as Chairperson and President of OW2. A long-time supporter of OW2, Jean represents Individual Members on the Board.

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter.
