May 2023 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - May 2023 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

First of all, OW2con'23 registrations are now open: and we warmly thank our sponsors, who make it possible, and all the community. The event is free, you are welcome: just sign in!

We are also happy to announce important results from NGI Search, the EU cascade funding OW2 is involved in: winners of the 1st open call should have a significant social impact, one of them being Open Food Facts, who will come and talk at OW2Con (discover the full program here). Another one, focused on sustainable IT, involves the eReuse community, and we expect some improvements in the field of open data related to green IT. A great way of using European funds, to make EU a better and more inclusive place - plus an opportunity for OW2 to bring in new projects, members, or initiatives!

And I would like to remind you that the 2nd NGI Search open call is still running - with a strong focus on AI, a quite research-oriented one. And still an opportunity to finance 1-year OSS projects, up to 150 kEUR.

This month is also the occasion of attending important OSS events, including OpenExpo Europe in Madrid (Spain), where OW2 has a booth + talk, and RPLL in Lyon (France), focused on professional free software - some of our members have booths and talk there, including Fusion Directory and Worteks. So come in, and meet us or the community!

And last but not least, OW2 has signed an open letter to the EU commission initiated by Eclipse, expressing our concerns about the CRA (Cyber Resilience Act) EU legislation project, and asking for more concertation with open source foundations. Our associate organizations CNLL, ESOP, OFE, OSBA, OSI and TDF, and our friends from Software Heritage, also signed it: we will remain vigilant about CRA, that we consider a threat for OSS and the European IT sector at large!

Thanking you for your ongoing support,

Pierre-Yves Gibello
