March 2023 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - March 2023 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

At OW2, February and early March are Board election times. So much work spent looking for candidates, telling them how to apply, sending reminders (finding candidates is never such an easy task: Board positions are volunteer ones!), organizing a vote, etc.

It is also a lot of time spent running after voters. Few candidates, little interest in voting... sometimes we may feel somewhat discouraged: shouldn't this energy be spent on developing OW2, promoting OW2Con, answering to calls for tender, interacting with the community?

Then I remember why we do that: a strange idea called "democracy". And one never spends enough energy defending it: a single candidate, a single voter deserve countless efforts, and warm thanks for their implication!

So, we are proud to announce that OW2 elected a new Board of Directors. We would like to specially thank Benoit Mortier and Jean Parpaillon for their commitment during many years. Jean remains our President by interim until the next Board meeting (and Chairman election).
I also would like to welcome two new Directors: Clément Aubin, from XWiki, and Mirko Presser, individual member representative and researcher at Aarhus Universitet, Denmark.

Concerning the OW2 community, we are happy to welcome a new member: Xenogenics, a French SME providing an open source data streaming technology called OpenStreams, initially developed by IBM.
And we wish a happy birthday to our Associate Organization OSI: 25 years old!

Also, we will soon unveil the winners of the 1st NGI Search open call: the shortlist looks promising for social economy and open source!

And don't forget OW2Con'23, now on a good track: we already have great sponsors (it is still possible to join), keynoters, and the CFP closes today, March 7th, with already many thrilling submissions pending - so if you still wish to submit something, please hurry up!

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Pierre-Yves Gibello
