January 2023 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - January 2023 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

All the team at OW2 wish you and your families a happy, successful, peaceful, and healthy new year.

Looking back at 2022, we have lived a year of transition in our management, with a new CEO and Sysadmin, and the world getting back to normal with events switching from virtual to real life after the pandemic : OW2 is still standing!

Despite obstacles, open source kept going its way to mainstream: big organizations adopt it, structure their governance by setting up OSPOs, and gain recognition thanks to their open source involvement: in our community, the prize won by Orange for their engagement in OSS is emblematic of this process. And our Good Governance Initiative shines thanks to the OSPO Alliance!

The public sector also embraces OSS more than ever: we are proud to announce that DINUM, the French State digital agency, started a cooperation with OW2 for 2023, focused on OSS quality assessment and governance.

And we have some good news on the membership side: we are happy to welcome a new member, OpenStudio, and a new Associate Organization, Open Source Sweden.

I would also like to remind the community our involvement in NGI Search, a European cascade funding that can finance up to 150 K€ for internet search/discovery OSS projects, across 5 open calls (the 1st one is now running, you can join our next open webinar on Jan. 10th for more details).

And, of course, plan your trip to OW2Con'23 (Paris, June 14/15). Main theme of this year: Digital Commons and Sovereignty! The CFP is open, great keynotes are expected, and motivating sponsorship packages are available.

So, as you can see, OW2 is more than ever up and running, and eager to facing new challenges!

Wishing you again a happy New year!

Pierre-Yves Gibello
