"Quelques jours avant le début de PCL, Bull a annoncé un Forum mondial du libre, qui souhaite « fédérer à Paris les plus grandes initiatives du monde du libre ». Ce forum se tiendra les 1er et 2 décembre. Il est piloté par les consortiums OW2 et Qualipso, les pôles de compétitivité Cap digital et System@tic ainsi que des associations (Adullact, Aful, April, Silicon Sentier)".

Ingres a profité de sa réunion trimestrielle, cette fois-ci à Paris, pour annoncer qu'il rejoignait le consortium OW2, vaste communauté de projets middleware Open Source. La base de donnée contribuera au développement du projet de Business Intelligence, en s'alliant à l'Italien SpagoBI. Il bénéficiera en outre de l'impulsion de l'ensemble des communautés.

OW2 was in the news this summer, thanks to Marc Sallières of Altic, OW2 Corporate Member and BI Initiative contributor, who reacted on a story by Infoworld. As a result, the north-american online publication ran a story by Tom Kaneshige entitled "Open source: What you should learn from the French". The paper says nice things about OW2 projects and about OW2, including: "Today, France is arguably the most fertile ground for open source development in the world. The well-known and respected OW2 Consortium for open source middleware has its roots there."
