[OW2 Newsletter - March 2015 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

We all know that merely adopting an open source license and publishing the code on a public repository does not guarantee the success of an open source project. Yes, making the code of unfinished components freely available does indeed open up opportunities for third-party stakeholders and contributors to volunteer to complete the software. On paper, this is a possibility. But this is not how open source actually works or how open source communities grow nor how open source software becomes successful. At OW2 we hold that one of the primary differences between a successful open source project and a failed one is that success calls for the implementation of a flawless open source project governance. This year at OW2 we will be paying special attention to the governance of our projects and, in the framework of the AppHub project, we will publish resources on open source project management best practices. Governance makes the difference.

OW2 and its members will be participating in many events over the next few weeks; check them out below. We are in the process of interviewing candidates for the CTO position in the OW2 Management Office. The OW2 board and chairperson elections are now in full swing and will be completed by April 9. We are lucky to have great candidates for the Corporate Members and Individual Members seats. Our General Assembly will take place on April 1, in Paris, at CCWE, room Amsterdam. Save the dates.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you at our General Assembly.

Cedric Thomas
