January 2019 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - January 2019 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

All the team at OW2 wish you and your families a very happy, successful and peaceful new year. We look forward to working with you in 2019!

I’d like to congratulate the three OW2 projects and members who won the “Champion of Free Software” awards at last month’s Paris Open Source Summit: Activeeon in the Innovation category, Ville de Paris with its Lutece project in the Strategy category and XWiki in the Ethical business category.

The central theme of OW2con this year is: "Open Source Toward Industry Maturity". As open source is becoming mainstream, IT developers, vendors, users and even open source organisations such as OW2 have to adapt. The Call For Presentations for OW2con'19 is open! Do not wait, check out the CFP details and submit before the March 17 deadline. We look forward to reading your proposals!

Looking back to the past year, 2018 was a year of transition. While our operating result is negative, we won three major EU-funded collaborative projects which provides us medium-term sustainability, we completed the migration of our technical infrastructure toward GitLab, we registered four new corporate members and four new projects in the code base. Last month, we recruited our new CTO, I am happy to introduce and welcome Iyad Alshabani. Iyad has an extensive experience in open source and collaborative projects.

Thanking you for your on-going support!

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter.
