April 2019 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - April 2019 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

Last week, the European Parliament adopted the controversial Copyright Directive with 348 votes in favour, 274 votes against and 36 abstentions. Fortunately, the proposal was passed with the following exception: “Providers of services such as (..) open source software developing and sharing platforms, (...) shall not be considered online content sharing service providers within the meaning of this Directive.” We are proud to have joined over a year ago the SaveCodeShare campaign launched by the Free Software Foundation Europe and OpenForum Europe requesting EU legislators to preserve the ability to collaboratively build software online. Despite this semi-victory, a lot remains to be done.  We are honoured to have been invited to contribute to the FSFE’s expert policy brochure "Public Money? Public Code!" advocating the importance of source code availability for trust and security in critical IT-infrastructure.

I am delighted to announce that, for the third consecutive year, the Board of Directors has re-elected Jean Parpaillon as its Chairperson and President of OW2. A long-time supporter of OW2, Jean represents Individual Members on the Board.

The OW2con’19 call for presentation is now closed and we are looking forward to a great programme. A quick message to Project Leaders: the OW2con'19 Best Project Awards Contest is launched, submit your project now!

On another note we are pleased to welcome new Corporate Member Gendarmerie Nationale who joins OW2 to support LemonLDAP::NG and bring new projects to the OW2 code base.

Thanking you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter.
