\[OW2 Newsletter - September 2008 - From the OW2 Management Office]\

Dear OW2 Members,

After some well-deserved time away from our desks (for some of us), here is our September newsletter. Noteworthy news include:

  • Our next Quarterly Meeting is on September 24-25, in Paris, concurrently with the Paris Capitale du Libre trade show and conference. Go to: http://www.ow2.org/view/Events/OW2QuarterlyMeetingParisFrance
  • We are pleased to welcome new Strategic Member Alcatel Lucent. The telecommunication equipment giant will leverage the consortium's governance framework to develop an open source business ecosystem around its IP Multimedia Subsystem platform. A presentation of Alcatel Lucent open source strategy is scheduled at next face-to-face Technology Council meeting.
  • Our members have established OW2 groups on LinkedIn and Facebook. Other social networks will follow depending on members initiatives or recommendations from the Technology and Ecosystem Councils. Go to: http://www.ow2.org/view/About/SocialNetworks
  • Urgent reminder: Luteces d'or; deadline is September 5. We encourage all eligible OW2 projects to submit to the Lutèce d'Or awards. Go to: http://www.ow2.org/view/Events/ParisCapitaleduLibre2008

I look forward to seeing you at our next Quarterly Meeting in Paris.

Cedric Thomas

PROJECT NEWS

OW2 will also be a platinum sponsor of the event.

OW2 IN THE NEWS

Linux Magazine, Brazil

- Several articles have been recently published about OW2 projects in Linux Magazine Brazil.

Infoworld

- Infoworld published a story which mentions several OW2 projects and talks of "The well-known and respected OW2 Consortium for open source...".  Nice :-)

OUTLOOK

Open World Forum

- OW2 will organize the OW2 TechDay as an associate event of the Open World Forum, in Paris, December 1-2, 2008.

China Roadshow

- The OW2 Management Office will hold a number of meetings in China at the end-October and give presentations of OW2 at the Beijing Open Source Camp as well as in the Scilab Programing Contest.

Additional Services

- We are currently working on adding new services to the OW2 technical infrastructure: Dimdim, a Webinar tool (with the help of INRIA) and FOSSology to manage licenses in our code base. I met Bob Gobeille at OSCON who kindly agreed to help us implement FOSSology.

IPR Policy Maintenance

- After recent community discussions on open source licences (questions on the GLPv3, Affero, proliferation), we realized that our IPR policy document may require some maintenance and have started discussions get professional help.

Specific End-User Status

- The Ecosystem Council is currently working on a request from the Management Office to propose a new End-User status at the next Board Meeting.

JaVoxx (Javapolis)

- As we were following up regarding the 20+ papers we proposed for next Javoxx conference, we heard that the steering committee was apparently running late and that they intend to issue a formal call for papers in September...

OW2 Annual Conference

- The OW2 Annual Conference will take place April 1-2, 2009, in Paris, France concurrently with Solutions Linux 2009, a major open source tradeshow. Mark the date.
