May 2016 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - May 2016 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

In the past few weeks, OW2 has participated in Cloud Computing World Expo, Cloud Expo Europe, Net-Futures and OpenStack Summit and this month it's OSCON. Events of such international scope not only provide a springboard for the promotion of our projects and members but also highlight the key trends that define OW2's industry environment.

While disruptions such as software-defined anything, cloud computing and the SaaS model, Big Data and data analytics and security issues are in full swing, at least three growing trends are worthy of attention. First, IoT is now everywhere and with it a renewed focus on the diversity of vertical sectors such as industry, health care, and transportation as well as on the convergence of IT and telecom. Second, with containers and microservices, platforms and APIs, and the DevOps approach, the way in which we develop, test and manage applications is changing definitively. Third, for many IT professionals and their managers, these changes are not only about technology but also about culture: mindsets and processes are just as important as technology.

The industry is well aware that ICT innovation is set to be even more collaborative than before. There are so many interdependencies that no one can afford to take the risk of investing in a technology that will not be endorsed by the rest of the industry. Collaborative innovation is here to stay and open source is the default status of collaborative innovation.

Since we are on the subject ofcollaborative innovation, I am pleased to reveal that, at OSCON, we will be announcing a new open source initiative on accessibility. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas
