June 2014 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - June 2014 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

It is with much pleasure that I start this latest edition of our newsletter by announcing that Wang Huaimin was elected chairman of the board of OW2 during the Board of Directors meeting on May 23. Wang Huaimin is Professor at the School of Computer Engineering and Education Department Chief Engineer at OW2 founding-member NUDT in Changhsa, China. Instrumental in launching OW2, Wang Huaimin has been a board member since our community was founded. The boards has established two VP positions: Valere Robin from Orange has been appointed VP Finance and Jean-Pierre Lorre from Linagora VP Collaborative Projects. Valere and Jean-Pierre will provide valuable assistance and guidance with two increasingly critical areas for OW2. Our congratulations and appreciation to all three of you! The OW2 Management Office looks forward to working with you.

In May, we had fruitful discussions with our friends from the OpenStack Foundation and agreed on creating a synergy between OW2con'14 and the OpenStack Summit, to be held concurrently in Paris, France. Of course there are still many practical issues to be sorted out, but you can look forward to a special edition of  OW2con'14 from November 4-6!

Behind the scenes, the OW2 Technology Council is implementing a long overdue assessment of our code base. What started as mere spring-cleaning is evolving into an in-depth analysis of the criteria required to evaluate our open source projects. Fascinating, we'll keep you posted!

We are pleased to welcome DMTF as new OW2 Associate Organization. We  will work more closely together for the promotion of open standards for cloud computing interoperability among multi-vendor IT infrastructures. Programming contest: we have extended the deadline for registration so teams now have until July 15, 2014; however the deadline for code submission—September 10, 2014—is unchanged.

As usual, thank you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter

>New Projects

The Technology Council has accepted two new projects in incubation, both contributing to the OW2 FISSi initiative:
iConnect: the iConnect project aims to provide a universal solution towards interoperability between highly heterogeneous systems by reconciling behavioral discrepancies, from the application down to the middleware layer.

MobIoT: MobIoT is a service-oriented middleware for the mobile Internet of Things (IoT), which notably focuses on ultra-large scale, heterogeneity and dynamics of the target networking environment. MobIoT is supported by the OW2 FISSi initiative.
