February 2016 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - February 2016 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

It's election time at OW2. This year we must elect seven representatives for the Corporate Members and one representative for the Individual Members. Please check out this page here for a comprehensive overview of the process. Please keep in mind that registration of candidates closes on February 12. Our General Assembly will be held on March 23, at Cloud Computing World Expo at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris.

We have an impressive list of speaking and exhibition opportunities for our members and projects in 2016. Come speak at the Open Cloud Forums by OW2 at Cloud Computing World Expo (March) and Cloud Expo Europe (April), join our booth at the two OpenStack Summits (April and October) and both OSCON Conferences (May and October). We will also be at FISL (July) and POSS (November). Last but not least, we are changing the schedule of OW2con which will take place in June this year.

Our agenda these days is also busy with collaborative projects. Note H2020 calls ICT-6 and ICT-10 on software engineering and cloud computing.  We are already  working on several proposals. Hurry if you are interested as calls close on April 12. In the meantime, in January and February,  we have four reviews: AppHub, CHOReVOLUTION, OCCiware and RISCOSS.

Last week, at FOSDEM in Brussels, we presented OSCAR "Open-source Software Capability Assessment Radar", our plan to evolve our quality program. More later, stay tuned.

Ah, and do not forget the Chinese New Year as Monday, February 8th ushers in the Year of the Monkey. Happy Spring Festival!  恭贺新禧!

Thank you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter

New Projects

Two new projects have joined the OW2 code base:

  • Nanocloud Community,  a fully packaged VDI & RDS solution allowing to transform any legacy software (heavy/rich client) into a SaaS solution without any modification of code. The project is led by Cédric Carbone, OW2 co-founder and board member.
  • VESPA - Virtual Environments Self-Protecting Architecture - an architecture and software framework written in Python for security monitoring of IaaS and multi-IaaS infrastructures. VESPA is an outcome of the OpenCloudware collaborative project. Its project leader, Marc Lacoste, from Orange Labs joins the Technology Council.
