August 2016 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - August 2016 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

Open source software deployed by the end-user tends to be considered more as technology than as a product. Thus, under the control of IT engineers, OSS does not figure on the C-Level executives' radar. While working on the OSS in Big Cities initiative — currently in preparation at OW2 — we came to realise that what is true for big cities is also very likely true for companies. Open source software is only a technical solution not a business investment and this may well serve to explain why companies do not as a general rule even envisage the possibility of an open source software strategy.

OW2con'16 Annual conference : Code to Product This is one of the many aspects of the technology and business of open source software that will be addressed at OW2con'16. As in previous years, attendance at our Annual Conference is completely FREE of charge. Make sure you visit the OW2con'16 website, check out the program and save the date (registration will open end August). Important: we welcome your support, check out the OW2con'16 sponsorship prospectus. We also depend on you to promote our conference: tweet about it and insert our banner widgets on your website. And if you’re among those who like to leave things to the last minute, you still have a couple of days for the CFP. Get to it!

This month we are very pleased to welcome our latest member, open source software vendor BlueMind. BlueMind develops and markets the unified enterprise communication solution that bears the same name — a software that has so far been lacking in OW2’s code base.

Thank you for your on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter
