Open Source for the Computing Infrastructure

The OW2 Annual Conference took place on April 1-2, 2009 in Paris. The conference theme this year was "Open Source for the Computing Infrastructure", with a focus on experience sharing and demonstrations of real life implementations of OW2 projects. The OW2 Annual Conference was co-located with Solutions Linux 2009, a major open source tradeshow in Europe.

As an international high-technology conference, OW2 annual conference featured 2 days of high profile business and technical sessions, including:

  • Two keynote lectures: lead Ruby language designer Yukihiro Matsumoto, and Java EE 6 specification lead Roberto Chinnici,
  • Seven thematic sessions, and over 30 presentations, with speakers from Europe, Asia and the Americas,
  • A social events: the Free Beer Party,
  • Several "poster sessions".
Out of 1200 people registered for our conference some 20% of turned up, which is a satisfying level of attendance for the first edition of the OW2 Annual Conference.

The Success Stories session was the most successful session, which shows the growing interest in case studies and the recognition of OW2 components for enterprise deployment.

Organized jointly with the conference, the OW2 Village in Solutions Linux exhibition floor was an opportunity for visitors to attend project demos and discover commercial offers by vendors from the community as well as research activities on middleware OW2 technologies.

The OW2 Village was located right by the main entrance of the Solutions Linux exhibition floor. A three-metter OW2 flag was there to immediately catch the visitors attention. Moreover, the i,tersection by the village turened out to be the busiest one on the floor.

This exceptional location was highly appreciated by the OW2 members sponsoring the conference and exhibiting on the village: EBM Websourcing, eXo Platform, XWiki, Engineering, Ingres, INRIA, Bull. This was a unique visibility opportunity given the massive audience of the trade show: 8500 visitors for the 2009 edition.
