September 2011 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - September 2011 - From the OW2 Management Office]
Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
OW2 has a series of high-profile events coming up with OpenStack in Action (Sept. 21), the Open World Forum (Sept. 22-24), the China Open Source Week (Oct. 12-17) and OW2con (Nov. 23-24). We look forward to seeing you at one of these events at least. Make sure you save the dates and check out our sponsorship packages. Our appreciation to Canonical, Inria and Orange, the Gold sponsors of both the China Open Source Week and OW2con.

The SQuAT programme is entering its last implementation phase: the leaders of mature OW2 projects will soon be asked to run Antelink Release Cooker and QualiPSo Open Maturity Model.

We are pleased to announce that Prologue SA, a long-time friend of OW2, is joining us, kicking off with significant contributions to the CompatibleOne collaborative project, in particular.

If you want to take part, even remotely, in the Open World Forum Community Summit that we are organizing, here is the question submitted to the Citizenship session panelists: That sense of citizenship that makes open source communities really communities, what is it made of? How do we define it? Is it real or aren't open source communities more like user groups instrumentalized by clever marketing strategies?

If you ask me, I'd say that while OW2 might not be perfect, we make progress every day and, at least, we are an independent community. Why is independance so important? Because it is the soul of community citizenship! More than ever we appreciate your on-going support. Thanks to you all!

Cedric Thomas
PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the blank">OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter
