[OW2 Newsletter - June 2013 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

We are increasingly involved in cloud computing projects not only because this is a natural evolution in our middleware positioning but also because it is the nature of cloud computing to rely on well established organizations. Cloud computing is a highly capitalistic business: complex architectures, lenghty development times, significant hardware and marketing investment, multiple stakeholders, etc. Open source in this segment is not for the individual community activist but for collaborative developments efforts driven by corporations, sometimes supported by governments. At OW2, we understand that open source communities engaged in cloud computing ride on the shoulders of corporations and governments. Three years ago already, it was with this vision in mind that we launched the Open Source Cloudware initiative (OSCi). OSCi is the community coordination mechanism that enable us to successfully set up projects such as OpenCloudwareSirocco or CHOReOS and to engage with equally noteworthy projects such as Contrail, SOA4All, 4Caast, etc. OW2 is in effect the reference community for large-scale open cloud projects in Europe.

We are pleased to announce that 99cloud an open cloud infrastructure integration and service company and the leading OpenStack solution provider in China is joining OW2. Like OW2, 99Cloud runs an OpenStack testbed, cloud.trystack.cn, so now we can look forward to linking their platform with ours (see below) and offer a multi-zone infrastructure for the promotion of our projects.

Thank you for your contributions and on-going support,

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter
