\[OW2 Newsletter - January 2013 - From the OW2 Management Office\]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy, peaceful and prosperous 2013.

Looking back on 2012, it was another year of progress for OW2. We recruited seven new members and accepted 11 new projects in our code base, we installed new multi-processor machines to offer our projects a cloud sandbox for their tests and demonstrations, we completed our Software Quality Assurance and Trustworthiness (SQuAT) quality program which will provide a unique advantage to our projects, we started two new collaborative projects, OCEAN on cloud computing and RISCOSS on software engineering quality, we successfully organized our first Brazil roadshow and again the China Open Source Week. And, last but not least, all the presentations at OW2con'12, our annual conference, were broadcast live on the internet and are now available on the event web page here.

Looking forward to 2013, OW2 is well positioned to help its members take advantage of the growing open cloud computing segment; we will benefit from the financial stability provided by the collaborative projects, and we will provide more value to our members through the improvements we will bring to the governance of our community projects. 

I take this occasion to express my personal gratitude to all in the Management Office for their dedication and efforts. I would also like to thank our board members and our new President Xinhai Jin for their support and guidance throughout 2012.

Wishing you once again a successful and peaceful 2013.

\[OW2 Newsletter - February 2013 - From the OW2 Management Office\]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

From Cloud Expo Europe in London last week to the China Cloud Computing Conference in Beijing in June, it looks as if our event news are all about cloud computing this month. Cloud computing is strategic for OW2. We have a key technology advantage because our flagship projects CompatibleOne and OpenCloudware are high-value software addressing the emerging needs of cloud-oriented information systems. Our difference is that we avoid the crowded IaaS layer: it is already controlled by well established players and it is bound to be automated, commoditized and consolidated.

Later this month we will be sending the notice for the General Assembly and the Election of Board members. As you can see, in 2013 we are shifting the schedule of the board of directors election by two weeks to take into consideration both the Spring Festival holiday in China and the Winter Holidays in France. Please check out this page here for a comprehensive overview of the process. Please keep in mind that registration of candidates will be open between February 25 and March 11.

Ah, and do not forget the Chinese New Year as February 10th ushers in the Year of the Snake!     恭贺新禧!

CloudScape V, February 27-28, Brussels

OCEAN project members will present the OCEAN Open Cloud directory and its interoperability testing services and our programme of OpenCloud Interoperability PlugFests co-organized with ETSI, SNIA and OGF. More.

CeBIT 2013, March 5-9, 2013, Hanover

Collaborative Projects Roundup

CHOReOS is organizing its launch at CeBIT. Having passed its final review with flying colours, CompatibleOne is organizing its next workshop. OpenCloudware has its first annual review this month. XLcloud is sprinting toward milestone three. RISCOSS started developing its use-cases. OCEAN is going public for the first time at CloudScape. 

Board elections

The 2013 elections of the Board of Directors and Chairperson will be held between February 25 and April 18. The call to the members will be mailed February 19. An overview of the process is here.

Solutions Linux, May 28-29, 2013, Paris

We are launching the preparation of our participation in Solutions Linux 2013. High-profile presence again this year with a village in the exhibition area and a half-day conference track for our projects. Stay tuned for the Call For Presentation!

OSCON, July 22-26, Portland, USA

We have discussed with organizers the possibility to organize at OSCON 2013 an OW2 village. Please contact us if you would be interested or have any plans to participate in OSCON this year.

OW2 Programming Contest

We will launch the 2013 OW2 programming contest at the beginning of March. Project leaders get ready to submit your topic proposals. This year, the award conference will be held in Chansha, October 22-24. Stay tuned!

5th China Cloud Computing Conference, June 5-7, Beijing

We are looking at the opportunity to take a booth and to organize an OW2 whorkshop to showcase our open cloud projects at the 5th China Cloud Computing Conference. Please let us know if you are interested in this event. More.
