Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
Cloud computing here, cloud computing there, cloud computing was certainly one of the main discussion topics in July at kOSCON
, Portland - where we announced our support for OpenStack
- and, in August, the underpinning theme at CONSEGI
, Brazilia, where we explained our analysis and strategy.
Our view is that the powerful commoditization trends which helped commercial open source software grow to what it is today are now fueling the growth of cloud computing.
The relationship between open source and cloud computing will be complex: they will be both rival and complementary. The opportunities for OW2 derive, on one hand, from the need for software innovation in cloud computing and, on the other, from open clouds requiring open source software. In other words, there will be no open clouds without open source software: as a community, we are committed to fostering open source for open clouds
and this strategy is executed through the OW2 Open Source Software initiative
. More on the OW2 analysis and strategy in this essay here
and in the presentation here
Whole sessions will be dedicated to cloud computing at several upcoming events where OW2 and its members will be highly visible:
- the Open Source World Conference
, in Malaga, October 27- 28, where the OW2 village and conference track will showcase several OW2 members and their projects,
Please see below for more information.
Meanwhile, the 2010 Programming Contest
is in its final evaluation stage. Good luck to the 12 teams who delivered their codes on time and we look forward to congratulating them at the award conference in Ningxia University, Sept. 24- 25.
Thank you for your on- going support,
PS: Project leaders: please use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter!
