OW2 Fees FAQ

  • Has OW2 recently changed its fees?
OW2 fees have not changed since January 2010. The fee structure is published here.
  • Why not rely on in-kind instead of financial contributions ?
That's what we had in mind when we launched OW2 in 2007. The start-up fee structure supposed a strong in-kind contribution from the membership. In-kind contribution is very problematic to implement, to evaluate and to manage. We had to change the fee structure in 2010 precisely to provide the Management Office with sufficient and predictable resources.
  • How is the fee structure decided?
Fees are approved by the Board of Directors? As stated in Section 3.07 of the OW2 Bylaws, "The Membership Dues Schedule may only be amended or revised by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the Board of Directors."
  • What is the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)
The Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is an index that reduces any expense to the same level of financial effort in any country. With the PPP we ensure OW2 membership cost is at par with the purchasing power of each countries. Developed countries have a purchasing power of 1 while les developed countries have a purchasing power between 0 and 1. Expressed as a fraction of the purchasing power of reference countries, the PPP is a way to help organisations in developing countries join OW2.
  • How do you apply the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) rule?
We use a PPP index provided by the World Bank and we update it from time to time. The PPP is applied to all Corporate Membership. It does not apply to Strategic Membership, with the exception of the founding Strategic Members. While we want to facilitate membership from struggling countries, we think that Strategic Membership of a global organization should not be concerned local economic conditions.
