Beihang University students win the first OW2 Programming Contest.

Successful first edition of the OW2 programming contest, organized jointly by the OW2 Consortium and Scilab in China, in which 17 university teams competed, is won by Beihang University.

Guyang, China, September 19, 2009 - A team of students from Beihang University (Beijing, China) are the winners of the first Programming Contest organized by the OW2 Consortium. The winning submission is a remarkable Web 2.0 BPM editor development for the OW2 Orchestra project.

A total of 17 teams signed up to compete on the 21 programming topics put forward by OW2 project leaders and six of them made it to the finals.

The awards, which include a first prize of RMB 20,000 and internship opportunities, are provided by contest sponsors Talend, CVIC-SE, Intervision and the Guangzhou Middleware Research Center. Aimed at promoting OW2 and the spirit of open source among academic institutions in China, the competition offered students the opportunity to demonstrate their software programming talents on OW2 open source middleware.

This contest was organized in cooperation with Scilab (the open source platform for numerical computation), LIAMA (Beijing Institute of Automation), Guizhou Normal University and the OW2 China Local Chapter. The evaluation process was conducted by the OW2 Technology Council who judged the quality of the code submitted, its potential contribution to the OW2 code base, the documentation and teamwork. The OW2-Scilab Award Ceremony, held at Guizhou Normal University, Guyang, Guizhou Province, China is colocated with the OSSC 2009 (International Workshop on Open-source Software for Scientific Computation).
