September 2014 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - August 2014 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

Established to support the ObjectWeb's projects over ten years ago, OW2's technical infrastructure has evolved from a single integrated forge into a complex architecture of complementary tools. However, state-of-the-art online resources emerging over the recent years appear to offer project development teams appealing alternatives. Within OW2 some even challenge the need for investment in our own technical infrastructure. While we may all have our own thoughts on the topic, these are legitimate questions. Join us and leading community practitioners in discussing these fascinating issues at the Open World Forum Community Summit. I will be sharing some of the questions we are dealing with as we consider upgrading some of the key elements of our infrastructure. Please note our questionnaire for OW2 Members who want to contribute to the discussion is still open.

It is an honour to announce that Francis Jutand, Scientific Director at new OW2 Strategic Member Institut Mines-Telecom will be a keynote speaker at OW2con'14. We've made great progress with our friends at the OpenStack Foundation to organize part of OW2con at the OpenStack Summit in Paris. We will be sending you a special OW2con'14 edition of our newsletter to update you on the final details. Stay tuned! We have extended the deadline for the call for presentations to September 6. Not much time left, so hurry! We need you! Check out the OW2con'14 sponsorship prospectus here and take advantage of the Paris Open Source Week!

I am pleased to welcome a new project in the OW2 code base: Lutece, the new-generation Java-based CMS/Portal developed by Ville de Paris which is already deployed across more than two hundred applications and sites.

Thank you for your on-going support.

Cedric Thomas

PS: Project leaders: Do not forget to use the OW2 Forge to tell everybody about your project updates. News will appear on the OW2 forge, our home page and in this newsletter
