OW2con'15 will be held in Paris, on November 17-18. Day 1 Nov. 17 will take place at Orange Labs in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Save the date! More details coming soon.
Cloud Expo Europe 2016, London
The Open Cloud Developer Park at Cloud Expo Europe will be held once again in 2016. As before, OW2 will be involved in designing the conference program. We are also in discussions with the organizers on setting up an OW2 exhibition space within the Park. Please contact us if you are interested; we need your feedback.

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
The transition of our industry toward everything as a service challenges the way we perceive the role of open source software (OSS). It creates such confusion that some may wonder if OSS is not being made irrelevant by the increasing attention to, for example, open data, open standards and open cloud.
In fact, in an everything as a service market, the risk of loss of control is much worse. In the SaaS business model, customer lock-in weapons include not only IP and code protection but also learning curves, network effects, user experience, control of APIs and data. This does not make OSS irrelevant, quite the contrary, in fact. It is simply that the struggle for more openness is increasing and needs additional forms. At a recent forum on cloud computing standardization, all the speakers from ISO, ITU, DMTF and OASIS, stressed the growing importance of OSS in the standardization process. From a purely entrepreneurial standpoint, while rent on proprietary software is no longer the ultimate source of profit, in a SaaS market OSS is an inevitable resource for creating value. OSS is not fading away; it is becoming the backdrop of the evolving IT industry.
On another note, we are delighted to announce that OW2 has a new Corporate member, University of Oslo. The university is committed to supporting OSS and multi-cloud technologies, including the PaaSage project, which has recently been accepted in the OW2 code base by the Technology Council.
