February 2014 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - February 2014 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

OW2 is at a crossroads. The consortium is in a typical crossing-the-chasm situation and will not continue as it is today unless new support is secured before next month. The OW2 Management Office and the Board of Directors are engaged in a 90-day plan to obtain this critical strategic support, which includes signing new strategic members, securing donations, developing in-kind contributions, etc.

Fortunately, OW2 is in a unique position. Thanks to OW2, dozens of open source projects can benefit from a recognized open source community platform and access promotion resources to help build awareness in the global competitive arena. OW2 brings active community support to open source projects in three of the areas with the highest potential for growth: cloud computing, big data and internet of the future. Cloud computing: the relevance of the OW2 code base and its members' dynamism contributed to OpenStack choosing Paris for its international summit in November 2014. OW2 has also launched community initiatives along with its other two development priorities, Big Data and the Internet of the Future. Moreover, OW2 has developed its own quality program (Software Quality Assurance and Trustworthiness – SQuAT), a strong differentiator in the world of open source organisations.

While OW2 is comprised of individual projects, members and initiatives, it is important to understand that our real added value is our synergy: "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

This month, at Cloud Expo Europe in London, we will be launching Open Cloud Forum by OW2, a new series of OW2-driven events to promote open cloud projects in Europe. And, next month sees the launch of our OW2 Webinar Series to promote OW2 members and projects. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your on-going support and Happy New Year of the Horse to our friends in China!

Cedric Thomas
