Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
OW2 attracted a great deal of attention at OSCON when we described our "à la Eclipse" cloud computing strategy for the cloud computing market. The story goes like this: About fifteen years ago, when IBM realized they could not unlock the competitive advantage of Sun's NetBeans in the development environment market, they changed the rules of the game by open sourcing the Eclipse platform. Today, we are in a similar situation: the cloud computing market is dominated by less than a handful of closed source proprietary offerings. So, we want to bring open source competitive openness to this market. With some 30 participants in the Open Source Cloudware initiative
and collaborative projects such as CompatibleOne and CHOReOS, OW2 is in a unique position to lead the implementation of an “à la Eclipse” strategy that will unlock dominant positions and open up opportunities in the cloud computing marketplace.
A quick reminder of our main upcoming events, the China Open Source Week (October 12-17) and OW2con (November 23-24). Make sure you save the dates and check out our sponsoring packages. softmethod: a systems integrator with extensive expertise based in Munich, Germany, softmethod is particularly strong in the areas of commercial systems, transportation and telecommunications.
At the time of writing, three submitted projects are currently being discussed by the Technology Council and will be announced in the September newsletter.
